Andrew Whipple nets a hat trick while South Portland High School Varsity a defensive stronghold to get a win

South Portland High School Varsity overcame Windham High School 6 - 1 at Civic Center on Thursday. South Portland High School Varsity tallied up two goals to jump in to the lead in the first period. As the second period unfolded, South Portland High School Varsity outscored Windham High School three to one and kept the lead. South Portland High School Varsity's defense shut down Windham High School for the rest of the game. In the final period South Portland High School Varsity scored one goal piling on and winning the game.

Leading the scoring for South Portland High School Varsity, Andrew Whipple netted the hat trick with three goals. During the first period, Whipple netted a goal with assists from Kyle Halverson and Philip Densmore. Piercing though the defense, Whipple Whipple put the puck in the net for a power play goal with assists from Philip Densmore and Will McMullin. Then Whipple got a third goal in the third period with an assist from Kyle Halverson. Kyle Halverson, Christian Guignard, and Alec Neal each tallied one goal for South Portland High School Varsity.

Having a standout day, South Portland High School Varsity's Shannon Tully finished with 16 saves to get the win. Windham High School's Goalie Player had just 29 saves on 35 shots.

South Portland High School Varsity ended their streak of eight losing games and ended the game with a record of 1 win and 8 losses. Windham High School suffered their first loss and finished the game with a record of 1-1.
